Make Phone Calls

You can initiate phone calls directly from EZ Contact Book using one of two methods:

Setup in EZ Contact Book

  1. Open Preferences > Phone Formatting and Links,

  2. Select your preferred method under Call Phone Via:

  3. If you choose Google Voice, you must also enter your international country code. (This is required for Google Voice, even if you dialing local numbers.)

  4. Using Google Voice requires you to have an account and be logged in to the service.

The Microsoft Phone Link app is a built-in feature of Windows 10 and 11.
The process works as follows:

  • When you click a phone hyperlink in the Contact Details panel, EZ Contact Book passes that phone number to the Phone Link app.
  • The phone number then appears on the Phone Link keypad.
  • Click the green Call button on the Phone Link app to start the call from your mobile phone.

Compatibility Check

Please note that not every mobile device is supported by Phone Link. Review the requirements and setup steps below. Since Phone Link is a part of the Windows operating system, the author cannot provide support for it.

Tip

Ensure you have the most recent version of the Phone Link app by checking its settings.

Initiating a Phone Call

Click a phone number hyperlink:

If Phone Link is not set as the default phone application in Windows, you must configure it:

  1. Go to Windows Settings > Apps > Default Apps.
  2. Scroll to Choose default by link type.
  3. Find TEL protocol and change the associated default application to Phone Link.

Once Phone Link is properly configured:

  • Clicking a phone number in EZ Contact Book will launch the Phone Link app.
  • If prompted, connect your mobile device.

  • The number will appear on the Phone Link keypad; press Call to dial.

  • During the call, you can select your preferred audio output on your phone:

Making Phone Calls via Google Voice

  1. Click a phone number hyperlink. This action will open a Google Voice page with the corresponding phone number pre-filled.
  2. Simply click Call on the page. The call will be placed directly using your computer's audio devices (microphone, speaker, or headset).
